Can I create a custom logo for my department?
We ask that you work with the Department of Communications and Brand Management to create all custom graphics, especially if they will be public or student facing, such as social media profile photos, printed materials, apparel, swag items and office signage. All custom graphics must meet the guidelines set forth in EKU’s official Visual Identity Guide.
The Department of Communications and Brand Management will be happy to create a complete, packaged institutional logo suite for you. An example can be seen below. Simply submit a project request at brand.eku.edu/project-requests.
What are the official EKU colors?
The official EKU colors are maroon and white. It is important that the correct shade of maroon is used, and it isn’t lightened or darkened. These colors can be used on a gray or black background.
For specific HTML color codes, pantones and RGB values, view EKU’s official Visual Identity Guide.
Can I modify the EKU Logos?
The EKU logos should not be altered in any way. The logos should also always be used with adequate spacing around the logo. These rules apply to all EKU logos, not only the ones in the examples below.
Examples of misusing the EKU logo:
Please note: The examples below are not from actual usage. They are provided as examples only.
Can I create my own stationery or business cards?
These items are created and provided by EKU Printing Services through the IT Department. For any printing requests, simply submit a quote or print order at it.eku.edu/printing.
How do I get EKU photos taken?
Getting your photo taken for official use is quick and easy. Fill out the photo request form at brand.eku.edu/photo-request and a representative from the Department of Communications and Brand Management will be in touch as soon as possible.
How can I get an approved logo?

How do I get EKU merchandise or promotional items?
Work with the Department of Communication and Brand Management to design your item. Once the design has been finalized, select an approved vendor to make the item. To find an approved vendor that matches your product needs, please contact one of the University's contracted providers of promotional products. Using approved vendors is required in order to maintain brand integrity and to ensure all products follow EKU’s Visual Identity Guide. Through these vendors, merchandise or promotional items can be approved by the Department of Communications and Brand Management.
How do I comment on a PDF file?
Adobe Acrobat's "sticky note" function allows you to leave comments, corrections and suggestions to a PDF file. Watch this video for a quick summary of using the sticky note function.
Which vendors can I use to purchase EKU merchandise?
All vendors who create EKU merchandise or promotional items must be vetted and approved by Eastern Kentucky University and our licensing partner, IMG College Licensing.
What items can I use the EKU logo on?
We’ve received some wonderful ideas in the past for products bearing the EKU logo, but on some items, EKU restricts the use of the logo and wordmark. EKU restricts the use of its logos on some products, such as items associated with alcohol use, weaponry, drug paraphernalia, or other such items. In general, the EKU logo is permitted on apparel, printed material and websites associated with student success and retention.
Not sure if you can use the logo with your idea? Please contact us, and we’ll be glad to assist you.
Can I create an EKU official account on social media?
You can, but we request that you contact the Department of Communications and Brand Management first so we can work with you to ensure the social media account is successful for both your department and the University. Additionally, you must give the Department of Communications and Brand Management the login credentials to the account so it can be accessed in the event it is abandoned or compromised.
Some questions you should consider before you create an account:
- Why do you need a new account, rather than an existing one?
- Will you regularly provide content updates?
- What are your goals for the account for engagement, clicks, and other analytics?
Please review our social media resources, including the social media guide, which has important tools for engaging with your audience. If you are interested in creating a social media account, please contact us to set up a meeting to discuss your goals and ideas.
Can I use materials with old logos?
No. If you have materials with old logos or content that needs to be updated, please contact the Department of Communications and Brand Management. It is important that all University communication products are updated with the latest branding and information. The Department of Communications and Brand Management would be happy to assist you in designing new materials, and assisting with updating the information. Please send any old materials to EKU Printing to see if any materials can be recycled.
Need old materials updated? We’d love to help. Simply submit a project request at brand.eku.edu/project-requests.
What do I do if I see an old or unapproved logo being used?
Please notify the Department of Communications and Brand Management with as much information as possible, including where the old logo is being used, contact information of the publisher of the materials, and your contact information if we have any questions. We appreciate your assistance!
